THQ Bringing Band Mashups to the Wii

THQ plans to combine rhythm and action games with Band Mashups for the Wii, letting players fight for musical supremacy.

Game publisher THQ announced it plans to combine the rhythm and action game genres in a new title Band Mashups that will let players compete against each other across 150 musical tracks to decide who’s the musical heavyweight. THQ plans to launch the game for the Nintendo Wii, and take full advantage of the Wii’s motion-sensitive controller to offer a unique game experience as players battle it out in their preferred musical styles.

Band Mashups takes an innovative approach to the rhythm/action genre by blending music, and combat in the ultimate battle of the bands,” said THQ’s global brand director Randy Shoemaker, in a statement. “Using a rhythm based game-play mechanic, the game delivers 70 over-the-top musical weapons and utilizes the Wii Remote’s functionality to deliver a completely original musical combat experience.”

Band Mashups will feature an extensive single player mode as well as two-player competition; players take on the role of one of eleven bands trying to beat out the boss Mr. Hong and take control of the city of New Cadenza. Players winning battles gain control of the style of music both players will hear—including rock, hip-hip, country, marching, and Latin. Tracks include 30 classic and current hits recorded across all five styles.

Band Mashups should hit retailers in April; no pricing or rating information has been released.
