THQ, HBO Making Sopranos Video Game
Video game publisher and cable network announce plans for a game which will cast players as the illegitimate son of Sal "Big Pussy†Bonpensiero trying to make his way up the ranks.
Video game publisher THQ and HBO today announced plans for a videogame based on the cable network’s widely popular series The Sopranos. The Sopranos game will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 video game consoles reportedly this holiday season.
The Sopranos game, said the two companies, puts players in the role of the illegitimate son of Sal “Big Pussy†Bonpensiero as they demonstrate their ability to move up in the ranks of Tony Soprano’s organization. Players undertake tasks like earning money on collections and protect their turf through intimidation as they take orders from Paulie, Silvio, Christopher and Tony in familiar locations such as the Bada Bing!, Nuovo Vesuvio’s and Satriale’s.
The game’s storyline was collaborated with show creator David Chase and voiced by the show’s key cast members.
“We’re excited to work with HBO on creating a game that captures the spirit of the groundbreaking series — a modern classic that redefines the life of crime genre,” said Kelly Flock, executive vice president, Worldwide Publishing, THQ, in a statement. “The Sopranos has become television legacy for this generation and now fans and gamers can become part of the story and see if they have the muscle and wit to become ‘made.’
