EA's latest golf title will allow gamers to play from a browser window - and they'll pay monthly for the privilege.

Though most of the titles to show up at this year’s E3 will hit physical shelves in cardboard boxes any number of months later, Electronic Arts has decided to dip its toe into a Web 2.0 model of distribution on one title: Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online will allow users to pay for their gaming experience monthly and play through a browser, rather than buying a disc and installing it.

The company announced the rather unusual distribution model for its title – which calls to mind Quake Live – on Friday, amid news of its other more conventional releases.

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Online is for anyone who loves golf and is on-the-go,” said Executive Producer Mike Taramykin, in a stattement. “Whether you have ten minutes on your PC in the office, or hours on your Mac at home, this is a golf game that makes time for you.

EA plans to release the title in the fall, but has not yet revealed what players will pay monthly for access to the game.
