US finals, to be played September 8 through 10 in New York, will bring together 184 American gamers competing for cash and a spot on the world gaming stage.
If you are in New York between September 8 and 10, you may want to make your way to the Hammerstein Ballroom for some video game action. It is from here that the World Cyber Games US Final will be.
This event, now in its fifth year, brings together approximately 184 gamers who battled their way through a crowd of over 40,000. The stakes for winning the tournament are high, with winners getting a part of the $34,000 prize. In addition, they will go on as group Team USA to compete in Singapore in the world grand finals this November for an additional $420,000.
Games under which competitors will take on one another include (on the PC) Half-Life: Counter Strike, FIFA Soccer 2005, Need for Speed: Underground 2, StarCraft: Brood War, WarCraft III: the Frozen Throne, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, (on the Xbox) Dead or Alive Ultimate and Halo 2.
Samsung, Intel, Shuttle and Razer are sponsors of the US finals.
