World Cyber Games Results

Last week saw the World Cyber Games in Seattle, and the US emerged as the victor.
It might not have attracted the same kind of global coverage as the Olympics or the World Cup, but last week saw the gaming equivalent, the WorldCyber Games, held in Seattle. More than 700 participants from 70 different countries took part, going for the gold (or silver or bronze) in the cyber games festival. It’s the sixthyear that the tournament has been staged. With 12 different games, ranging from Fifa 07 to Gears of War, the players went through to vie for medals – and cash, since a total of $448,000 wasdistributed to the winners. The US was the overall winner, grabbing three golds, two silvers and a bronze. It was followed by Brazil, which took home a pair of golds and a bronze. They werefollowed by South Korea, the Netherlands and Germany. A number of the entrants were pro-gamers, who already make their living from this, so the competition game them the opportunity to provethemselves against the very best and earn their stripes. Participants had qualified for the Games by winning regional competitions. Next year’s final will be held in Cologne, Germany.
