Microsoft’s Kinect has hit another success milestone. After launching on Nov. 4 2010, more than 10 million of the Xbox 360 peripherals have been sold around the world. Not impressed? 10 million Kinect games have also been sold, a number that doesn’t include the game (Kinect Adventures) bundled with each Kinect.
The milestone hasn’t gone unnoticed either. The Guinness Book of World Records has named the Xbox Kinect the “Fastest Selling Consumer Electronics Device.” According to the site, Kinect has the fastest 60 day launch sales of any consumer electronics device in history, outstripping the iPhone and iPad by selling an average of 133,333 units per day, totalling 8 million units in its first 60 days, from Nov. 4, 2010 to Jan. 3, 2011. Not bad.
“The sales figures here speak for themselves,” said Gaz Deaves, Guinness games editor. “We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”
From this data, it appears that the Kinect has sold 2 million more units since Jan. 3, which was 65 days ago. If that’s the case, it’s been selling about 30,800 units per day since the holidays ended. Not bad, but the iPad and iPhone have been able to hold their sales much more consistently. Guinness should revise its vague category titles. It should be: “Fastest Initial Sales of a Consumer Electronics Device.”
I bought mine after sniping it from the clutches of an old woman at Target. Used it for a week and now it has been sitting for about 3 months. I can’t wait till they come out with someting “I” want to play. Not much for dancing.

Agree with the other posts. There’s too much potential with this product to just limit it to traditional Wii like family games. We need more but no developers seem to want to step up and deliver.

I agree. I need to see what Kinect can do besides dancing games before I want to buy one. And no, Carnival Games and Fantastic Pets are not what I’m looking for either.
Anyway, congratulations, Microsoft. Just don’t rest on your laurels.

More reasons for developers to create some truly awesome and unique games for the Kinectic. The dancing game was a start, but we need something even bigger to show those boys at Nintendo who’s boss

Take that Sony with your "we're the best and you have to pay" attitude, second place is the first loser!
