This gps is a piece of junk, they should recall it and replace for a reliable one. The signal lost without a reason, or no signal at all, I have 2 Garmin and a Tomtom XXL540M before this one, and it is sad to say this is the worst one. Try to return it within 8 days but no such luck. Do yourself a favour, buy a better one. I only paid $70 for it but still not worth it.

Trying to help my sister with her 340-s as I have a TomTom One but this junk doesn't compare to the TomTom One. Even though the maps are in English, the menu insists on showing me German and I don't see where you can save favorite routes as you can with the TomTom One. Downloading from their site is super flow. I love my GPS (TomTom One) but if considering buying the 340-s, (DON'T).
BEWARE! JUNK! BUY A GARMIN
I purchased a refurbished one and regretted it quickly! When I tried to use my free 30 day map update it told me it was expired (the day after it was delivered to my home). After clearing that up with TomTom, I found out that my GPS was actually broken and unable to download the current map. The system memory kept coming up short. I spent around 4-6 hours divided between numerous occasions speaking to different TomTom customer service people trying to figure out the problem, and eventually I even reformatted it. I even had an extremely rude TomTom customer service representative named Heather mouth off to me and actually hang up on me. This has been a terrible experience! Good luck if you go this route! Trust me, you don't want this low quality junk nor the rude service experience!

I got a new Tomtom this christmas. The auto re-routing feature sucks. It always try to take you through the first route planed. In order for tomtom to find the easiest route from your current location you must stop and start it again. The de-tour feature is not as intuitive to use. Other features are okay. But it lacks behind in routing logic.
Given an option between Tomtom and (Garmin or Magellan) I will not choose Tomtom. It dont worth the 20 or 30$ saving.

I just bought this thing and it is horrible. I have spent 2 hours with customer support and it still doesn't work. I updated the map just like the guy at the top. It cancelled half way through and got corrupted. I deleted the old map and now it disconnects every time I delete and try to update the map. The USB is horribly slow and customer support is useless. They talk to me like I am 80 years old. It is driving me nuts. I am taking it back. I haven't even been able to use it. The features look great but the software is so bad I have had enough. Tom Tom you should be ashamed.

I recently purchased three(3) Garmen GPS's within the past year, all went back to dealer. I purchased my GPS (Tom Tom XL 340 S because someone that worked with one for over a year has bought had good report. My only complaint to day is that you cannot program the unit while driving. You have no way to disable the safety feature which sucks because in my job, I need to be moving all the time and this creates a problem for me to stop and add directions or addresses before I roll. Anybody else have this problem?

I just bought a TomTom 340S three weeks ago. Navigation to places I went was excellent. My only complaint is that the disk furnished to mount the unit to the windshield or window sucks - it already will not hold the unit. After a few seconds it falls off. What good is it? I have to lay the unit on a seat and hopefully it won't loose the signal. Mounting disk is trash!

Totally hung up the third time I used it. I had to pay to send it back which cost $18 as they only accept UPS or FedEx. BUMMER!

Software hard to use.

Website hard to use. Didn't explain what the choices are.

Contacting the company is a PAIN!

Upgraded from an older Tom Tom. Loving the new slim widescreen. Having no problems at all with it. Just make sure it's snapped into the the mount properly.

I had problems with the first unit that stemmed from the map and voice update. TomTom's desktop software stated updates were available and so I installed them. Later I found that a computer voice update caused the text to speech function to stop working. The map update, which I had been advised was fixed, did not update properly and I had no map available. So, why did I exchange if for a 2nd unit? I like the functions the unit offered and the price. Having spent two days trying to the get the first unit working, I now knew what to do and what not to do. Don't update the map, at least not yet, don't install voice unless you really need it and you have backed up the unit first. Do update the unit's operating system. Do remember while updating that the unit has a 1.1usb connection which is very slow. It can take hours to load certain updates. Back the unit up before you do any updates. There is no memory card slot, it has 2GB memory built in. Keeping all the above in mind, I love my unit. the preloaded maps have been flawless, I like the options offered it acquires satellites quickly, and the construction feels solid.

This Product has been defective since day one. When to update the unit and it locked up.The customer support is more worried about placing blame on you then the problem.. DId some research on the net and have found that this is a common problem and they are doing nothing to fix it other than stressing the consumer.Buy from a different manufacture!
