DT deboxed: Hands on with the Braven 850

Check out our review of the Braven 850 bluetooth speaker.

We unbox the Braven 850, the largest portable Bluetooth speaker to come from the company so far.

Positioned to compete against larger portables like Jawbone’s Big Jambox and Bose’s Soundlink, the 850 provides bigger sound with more bass and higher volume capability than the mid-size portables we’re used to seeing, thanks to larger drivers and a 20-watt amplifier.  Its rechargeable battery is said to provide up to 20 hours of play time and can charge mobile devices on the go. An on-board battery meter indicates charge level, as does a level indicator on a connected mobile device.

One of the speaker’s more unique points is that it can be wirelessly paired with another Braven 850 for left and right stereo separation and even higher output levels.

Our initial listening tests have it sitting at the very top of our list of portable Bluetooth speakers. We’ll have a full review in the coming weeks, but for now, we say buy with confidence. This thing sounds excellent!

The Braven 850 is available now for $300.
