I have had this drive for about 3 weeks, and so far it’s been amazing. It’s extremely fast. No complaints.

Before I installed this drive I had a Samsung SP1614C 160GB drive. Because I could sell this one for a good price, I wanted to buy a larger drive and the store didn’t have Samsung drive larger then 160, so I bought the Maxtor. It is a silent drive, as long as you don’t USE it! It makes an annoing sound when it reads/writes, compared to the Samsung… I want my good old silent drive back! But for the rest I have to say I believe it’s a good, reliable drive, without a doubt..

after less than the one year warranty, the big max is gone and only will come up with a “restore” notation.

I have 2 Maxtor 6MY200M0 harddisk installed with mirroring. One of the disk was broken upon delivery. I received an new one. My supplier told me that a lot of these disks will break down within 6 months. I have a lot of trouble with large files: They are getting corrupt somehow. I have also a IBM-harddisk and that one doesnot have these troubles. I am completely disappointed by these harddisks.

I have the 200GB Maxtor for 3 months now no problem till a few days ago. half of my music mp3 collection was missing. Decided to reboot and was prompt with a startup screnn that was deleting “orphan files” turned out the whole drive was “wiped out”. Some one told me that it could be the drive. If something like this happens then you dont care how cheap, fast, quiet (which is not) the thing is. You will lose all your data and that can not be replaced..

i had the first of the 2 of these for 4 months… then it literally blow up, and started to smoke…. hence i got a new 1, that one was dead out of the box, so i sent it back to get a third, whihc worked for 5 days before it too became unreadable. Maxtor needs to get its act together. btw i had to pay a total of $100 usd in order to meet all their shipping constraints for the 3 times i sent them back.

New drive installed – guess what, a couple of days on, it got naughty again!! Tickin’an’a'clickin away – needs to audition playing scratcha in a House band.Maybe I can’t expect anything more from a clockwork toy!!

This is the worse drive ever:
A month ago the Istrted getting S.M.A.R.T. messages about bad sectors and it jumped from 9MB to 33MB within a week. I got the replacement drive from maxtror and couldn’t even format it!

I’ve been using this hard drive for over two years in my computer. I have not had ANY problems with it. I would highly recommend it.

Maxtor 6y200m0 was the worst hard disk I’ve ever experienced before! It crashed after few months irreversibly. I can’t understand the apology written by digitaltrends on it.

Worked well for 4 years — in a system that lost several main power supplies — not sure why the computer power supplies chronically fail(ed) — in the Phoenix area — I hear plenty of power surges??? I would suspect this had an impact on this drive. The drive now only spins — completely unrecognized.
