We used to get excited about new technology. As a baby boomer, I used to see people haul still working appliances to the curb when they bought new ones. Now, it seems that you are expected to replace these things every few months. We watch about 10-15 DVD's a month, and we have gone through three standard (top brand name) DVD players that just die. They never last more than a year. I have a VCR player that still works after 14 years. I find the cheapest DVD players last as long as ones costing 3x as much. My computer DVD drive had been used daily for three years and still is going. Now they want me to rush out and buy a Blue-Ray player for triple the amount? How long will it last? Six months? No thanks!
