Plasma display shipments are expected to reach 850,000 units in the region this year, a nearly 70 percent increase over 2003, according to a report by analyst David Yew of Fusion Consulting here. “Most of the action is in Japan, China, Korea and Australia, which account for over 80 percent of total Asia Pacific plasma shipments,” Yew said.
Japan’s growth rate is forecast to be be about 25 percent this year. David said plasma sales in other Asian countries could triple in 2004, especially in emerging markets like China, South Korea and Taiwan. “Demand in China is expected to surpass 200,000 units, which makes it one of the fastest growing markets accounting for the 190-percent growth forecast for 2004,” said David.
