What FUD. Profile 1 titles have PiP, Profile 1.1 PiP is just switchable, so you can watch different video commentaries, people voicing animated characters, etc. Profile 2, which is optional, adds web-sourced extras on top of that. I'd even expect another optional profile for 3D playback, down the line. All Blu-ray players will play movies on any Blu-ray disc, regardless of which profile is conforms to. Personally, I already think the extras on Profile 1 discs are overkill. (Hairspray has so many PiP extras, they easily exceed the movie's length.) So I think these players are a great deal! (Just move it to the bedroom, if you want a newer player down the line.)

Yes, but if you buy a blu-ray player today that won't play blu-ray discs of next year will pretty much suck.

To Jason: Either way, if it's a non upgradeable BluRay player, it's better than a non existant HDDVD player. When Tosh started selling @ 50% off, that was the white flag rising. BluRay is just clearing the shelves and responding with a smarter offer. I wish they had the same prices as HDDVD disk's though (exception of Amazon)

The question is what version of Blu-ray do these players support? Since we know that 1.0 and 1.1 are not upgradeable and the newer version 1.3 discs won't playback correctly on those players.
