Congressional Push for DTV
Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association testifies before the Senate Commerce Committee next week.
In an effort to speed along the adoption of Digital Television Technology, Mr. Shapiro will testify in a hearing next week on the need for a hard date to end analog television broadcasting.
The CEA maintains that only 12% of viewers watch broadcast television, with 10% more only used as game or DVD players.
A decade ago, Congress and the FCC set a hard date of Dec. 31, 2006 for the end of analog television broadcast. Loopholes exist which would allow Congress to extend the deadline, and the debate is fierce on whether Analog TV should continue, or go dark
