Dell Says It’s Sticking With LCD TVs

Dell Says It

Denying rumors spawned from an article in a Taiwan paper, Dell says it plans to stay in the LCD TV business, but will begin selling sets from other manufacturers.

A recent report in Taiwan’s Economic Daily News reported that computer maker Dell was planning to exit the LCD television market, prompting a flurry of speculation on industry blogs and business publications. The article maintained that ditching the LCD television business would enable Dell to more clearly focus on the recovery of its core PC business, where it has seen its worldwide market share slumping significantly in recent quarters.

Hoping to put an end to speculation, Dell has denied it plans to exist the LCD television business, but says it is planning to change up its LCD TV offerings. The company will continue to offer Dell-branded LCD televisions at sizes of 37 inches and under, while offering a wider range of LCD displays from other manufacturers.

Earlier this year, Dell began offering Sony 40- and 46-inch LCD televisions for sale via Dell.com; Dell currently offers LCD televisions from ViewSonic, Samsung, Panasonic, and Pioneer.
