Market researcher iSuppli said Wednesday that it expects the number of digital televisions to expand fourfold from 2004 to 2008.
“In a report released late Wednesday, the firm predicted that DTV shipments will reach 86.6 million units in 2008, rising at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 44.5 percent from 19.9 million units in 2004. The year 2004 will be particularly stellar for DTV, with unit shipments expected to grow by 114 percent from 9.3 million in 2003. ADVERTISEMENT
Worldwide DTV shipment revenue will double by 2008, reaching $62.8 billion in 2008, up from $31.4 billion in 2004, the firm said.
The majority of DTV shipments are classified as “DTV-ready”, or lacking DTV tuners but able to accept them in the future. About 60 percent fo the sets manufactured today fall into that classification, the firm said. By 2008, however, integrated sets will account for 75 percent of all DTV shipments.”
