Epson Launches Two All-in-One Projectors

The MovieMate 50 and MovieMate 72 are as close as you can come to a theater in a box. The only things they're missing are a popcorn machines.

If you can’t quite decide which room in your house you would like to watch movies in, Epson has a new solution that should be a lot easier than sliding a TV from room to room every Saturday night. The company’s new MovieMate 50 and 72 projectors pack everything you need for a movie, including a DVD player, speakers and projector, into one portable unit.

The MovieMate 50 places emphasis on ease of transport. Epson was able to trim its footprint to 63 percent less than previous generations of MovieMate projectors’, and it weighs in at 8.3 pounds. Two 8W speakers provide audio while the projector’s native resolution of 480p matches DVDs to eliminate any scaling.

The MovieMate 72 steps consumers up to high-def video. In fact, Epson claims the it will be the first all-in-one projector to offer native 720p resolution. The built-in DVD player even upscales DVDs to match. Four 5W speakers provide audio. The projector also includes a swiveling base for loading DVDs, HDMI inputs, and a lens that can shift to allow for off-center projection.

Although Epson didn’t announce when the projectors would be available, the company did provide estimated street prices. The MovieMate 50 will likely sell for $799.99, while the high-def MovieMate 72 will go for $1,199.99.
