Earlier this week we reported that Fujitsu would be selling its LCD business to Sharp. The word is that the Japanese company will stay focused on semiconductors from now on.
“Ono, corporate executive vice president in charge of Fujitsu’s device business, attributed the company’s recent sale of its LCD business to Sharp and transfer of its plasma display business to Hitachi to the $1 billion investments he estimates would be needed to continue operating in those sectors.
Focusing on semiconductors, Fujitsu plans to invest 90 billion yen (about $850 million) in its semiconductor business for the fiscal 2005 year starting April. Most of the investment will be in Fujitsu’s new 300 mm fab in Mie Prefecture, slated to begin volume production in September.”
