JVC has release its new "popularly-priced" Blu-ray player.

JVC has announced (quite briefly, actually) its latest Blu-ray player today—the new JVC XV-BP11. This Blu-ray player offers playback of high definition Blu-ray discs, plus playback of the AVCHD format—the high definition format widely used for HD camcorders—and it is retailing for $199.95. The ultra-thin XV-BP11 is also equipped with HDMI 1.3 video composite, a USB socket and is compatible with a number of audio formats.

JVC describes its new Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player as a “truly versatile high definition player,” and attributes the convenience of the device to features like the “cinema zoom (x16), parental lock, and its slim design.”

  1. Rusty Shackleford at 11:25am 28th October 2009 Blu-ray players are finally down to a price I would actually consider buying one at, but the actual discs are still extraordinarily expensive. $25 for Transformers on Blu-ray, are you kidding me? Recordable Blu-ray discs cost like $3 apiece now, and that's on the consumer end. We know there's no Willy Wonka magic going into making these things that makes the final product worth $25. Quit bending consumers over for the content while reaping enormous margins and maybe this format will actually go somewhere.
    1. Dena Cassella at 11:31am 28th October 2009 An analyst I talked to this morning said that Blu-ray is going to continue to come down in price, and we have the approaching 3D TV revolution to thank for that. I have a feeling this JVC model will be a big hit for the holidays.
    2. TechFreak at 11:31am 28th October 2009 How is $3/disc any different than when recordable DVDs first came out? The prices for new media are aligned. It's about yield, the more you make, the cheaper they get. Blu-ray just isn't there yet. Get the JVC and play your regular DVD movies. Then when Blu-ray prices come down you can buy them. For the record, there are a ton of Blu-ray movies for under $20 out there. With a lot under $15 already. http://www.amazon.com/Blu-ray-movies-discs-store-deals/b/ref=sa_menu_blu1?ie=UTF8&node=193640011&pf_rd_p=328655101&pf_rd_s=left-nav-1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=507846&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0DXY84KVVFYERT0JJV8P Check out Amazon for prices. Please research before posting Rusty. ;)
