JVC Develops Dual-layer DVD-RW Disc

ExtremeTech is reporting that JVC has developed a re-writable Dual layer disc specification to be approved by the DVD alliance.

The disc is not a product, as yet; instead, the format will be submitted to the DVD Forum for approval, the company said. The dual-layer disc would store approximately 8.5 Gbytes of data, or roughly 11 hours of video.

The disc uses a semi-transparent top layer to allow the recording of data to a second layer. JVC said it had developed a new recording technology, called “N-Strategy”, which the company said it had adapted from the development of high-speed DVD-RW technology.
