Today at the IFA tradeshow in Berlin, LG has debuted the world’s thinnest OLED (organic light emitting diode) TV, measuring just 2.9mm, according to Crave Asia. The thin OLED sets have been around since the 2007 introduction of the Sony XEL-1, but the LG model has the added benefit of 3D playback.
There is a catch though. No official price has been given yet for the set, but it will likely be expensive. Jaw droppingly expensive. The Chaebol 15-inch EL9500 OLED is on sale now in the U.S. For $2,500.

I would love to see if OLED could produce a picture without the downfalls of LCD – of course one can’t tell until looked upon with one’s own eyes.
If they can make it large enough, OLED will be the future of televisions in years to come. Now we just need pure wireless connectivity between devices, should only be a few years away before it’s mainstream.

i would not be surprised if the screen dissappear altogether…they get slimmer each years…
I bet with the money Paul Allen will get from suing the planet he should be able to wallpaper his house with these. OLED is amazing tech. If it ever becomes affordable i would love to get one. When the 31inch gets to 300 USD at Wallmart i might get one ;)
Cool tech, ridiculous price. When will these companies stop touting their capabilities and actually introduce some tech that people want (and can afford) to buy?
