Lux: Flat Screen in The Great Outdoors

The Lux ARIIS-WFSS uses Wi-Fi and a 26-inch HD LCD screen to take your Windows Media Center content in outside in a stainless steel, weather-resistant idol.

You know, there’s nothing like enjoying the outdoors. The sun, the fresh air, the sounds of nature, the beauty of the sky, the calls of birds, the busy bees, maybe the sight of the occasional squirrel, chipmunk, or raccoon.

The problem, though? Not enough TV.

Lux Entertainment LLC has got the solution for you in the form of its new outdoor-friendly ARRIS WF free-standing entertainment center: just take it outside, plug it in anywhere you can get power (generator, anyone?) and you can enjoy any content you can serve via Wi-Fi from a Windows Media PC on its built-in 26-inch LCD display.

The Arris WF features a 26-inch active matrix LCD offering 1368 by 768 pixel resolution (sorry, no 1080p) with 450cd/m2 brightness, 800:1 contrast, and a 170° viewing angle. Also in the 100 pound, four-and-a-half foot-tall stainless steel stand: a 10-watt sound system with marine-grade speakers, Wi-Fi (802.11a/g with WEP) for receiving streaming media from a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 PC, RCA audio inputs and outputs, composite video input, and an RS-232 input. But don’t be afraid to leave the ARRIS WF out on the porch during a rainstorm: the "armor-like" stainless steel case is "virtually indestructible" and resists damage from weather and the environment, protecting the precious electronics inside. (Except the remote control, of course, because that’s not in the armor. Don’t leave that out in the rain.)

And, we think, a bargain at around $6,000. Get two; one for the kids’ end of the pool and one for the hot tub.

  1. Matt at 9:47am 2nd August 2006 Wellyou know, camping ain't camping without your TV, Satellite, hot tub and a beer. I guess I'm wondering who needs TV outside? Are there that many people crying to watch Judge Judy while mowing the yard.
