Mondo Mint Audio Rig Offers Two iPod Docks

Mondo Systems has taken the wraps off its Mondo Mint Digital Music Station, a stereo speaker system for the Apple iPod which offers both a typical up-top iPod dock for listening to your iPod-stored tunes, but also a wireless iPod dock which lets users stream their music to the sound system from up to 100 feet away.

The Mondo Mint was designed by form eMachines founder and engineer Chris Chung, and consists of a table-top unit sporting a Class D digital amplifier, which powers two 4-ohm wood-construction satellite speakers at 70 watts. The speakers sport 4-inch AuraSound aluminum cone drivers and 1-inch Peerless neodymium tweeters, while the base unit sports a typical iPod dock. The Mondo Mint’s most unusual feature is a second wireless iPod dock containing a proprietary wireless digital audio transmitter, enabling users to stream music from their iPod to the speaker system from up to 100 feet away—while charging their iPod. The speaker system also comes with a remote control, so users won’t be stuck manipulating their iPod interface to control their tunes.

The Mondo Mint also sports USB and line-in connections so it can be used with other audio sources.

“Mondo was built on the philosophy of creating high-quality, high-fidelity digital sound at an affordable price for everyone,” said Ron Gillies, Mondo USA’s VP of sales and marketing, in a statement. “Although the Mondo Mint is small in size, it delivers big sound with incredible range and versatility. This is a one-of-a-kind product, and we can’t wait for consumers to experience the difference.”

The Mondo Mint should be available in June at a suggested price of $349.
