NEC Rolls Out the Flat-Panel Displays

NEC is introducing three lines of flat-panel displays at this year's CEDIA Expo, including new LCD displays and three new plasma displays going out to 60 inches.

NEC Display Solutions is introducing three new lines of flat panel displays at this year’s CEDIA Expo in Denver, all of which are geared toward residential use, ranging from casual television viewing through high-definition home theaters.

"By introducing three unique lines of flat panel displays, and offering a host of new features and functionality, NEC provides consumers with display options for every room in their home," said NEC Display Solutions executive VP Pierre Richer in a statement. "These displays bring together NEC’s award-winning innovative video technologies and world-class product quality for unsurpassed viewing experiences."

NEC’s New MultiSync Residential Series LCD displays will be available in 40-inch and 46-inch sizes, and offer 1080p "full HD" resolution, and function both as a high-definition television and a computer display. The MultiSyncs will offer HDCP-enabled DVI-D and HDMI interfaces, along with component and composite inputs. The systems will ship with ATSC and QAM tuners, sport an expansion slot for upgrades, and offer an RS-232 port for system integration. Users will also be able to swap out the bezel for black or silver, depending what matches their decor.

The NEC AccuSync Series of LCD displays will come in 32-, 40-, and 46-inch sizes, and sport detachable TruSurround XT speakers, two HDCP-enabled HDMI inputs, an integrated HD Tuner, and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio with a 6 ms response time. NEC is positioning the AccuSync displays as a value-and-performance proposition: not loaded with high end features, but not heavy on the pocketbook either.

Finally, NEC is getting large with its 42XC10, 50XC10, and 60XC10 PlasmaSync Residential plasma displays, offering sizes from 42 to 60 inches, HDCP-enabled HDMI inputs, RS-232 input for integration with home automation systems, and a removable bezel to create an all-black cabinet that should fit into almost any room. The displays also support DVI-D input (HDCP-capable), composite, composite, and S-Video input, and are compatible with VESA-standard wall mounts.

NEC will be showing the displays at CEDIA booth 985—and giving away a 40-inch AccuSync PV40 LCD display on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
