NeuNeo HVD108 HD DVD Player Review

NeuNeo has come up with a DVD Player that takes your old DVD's and upconverts them to HDTV quality. Though not something new, there are some suprises inside.

“The HVD-108 is a great player to consider if you were an early adopter and bought a HDTV that only has Component Video Inputs. It allows you to improve the quality of all your old DVD’s and make them pretty much new again with the increased quality of the High Definition conversion process. Since most new HD Upconverting DVD players only work with DVI, the HVD-108 is on a very short list of players to consider.

The VGA output is a huge plus for anyone who wants to use their PC monitor to view DVD’s at the best possible quality, and with all the format compatibility of the machine, you really don’t need your PC anymore to view those burned DVD’s, or Video CD’s. This machine will chow through them no problem.

My disappointment with this machine only lies in the audio department. With such a shining video section, the audio section does need a bit of work, especially in the DTS support area and maybe some real use for the 6 channel output on the back of the machine. If it doesn’t play DVD Audio or Super Audio CD, then why include that, especially since all Home Theatre Receivers manufactured these days have built in decoders. To its credit, the HVD-108 does have a user upgradeable firmware, so hopefully we see some improvement with some new, more refined software. “
