New Hannspree TVs to Take Various Shapes

New line of televisions designed to take various shapes which will look nothing like boxes we know today.

How would you like a TV that replicates the look of a baseball? What if your child’s television was built into the belly of a cuddly teddy bear? These are some of the design ideas behind Hannspree, which today announced they were launching a new line of “design driven lifestyle televisions” for the American consumer market.

Hannspree’s new line, which will initially be available on its website or through one of two company owned retail galleries, incorporates a range of more than 100 design ideas and will price from $449.99 to $1399.99. Each TV will make use of a LCD, with the widescreen models being HDTV compatible.

Three themed product lines make up the Hannspreee line up, according to a company issued press release. Style is inspired by fashion and home life and features designs related to things like the musical arts and flowers. Fantasy consists of those things which offer playful designs, such as a texture television which takes the form of a giraffe or sheep.

The third line, Sports, draws upon specific sports for its design ideas. Hannspree has signed deals with the NBA and MLB to have their specific teams give their logo or colors to one or more designs. Other Sports sets will feature themes such as hiking and golf.

“Consumers can at last own a TV that both appeals on an emotional level and delivers an excellent viewing experience,” said Rick Calacci, Hannspree’s senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Americas. “In a world of infinite choices, people deserve products that complement and enhance their living environments. Gone forever is the complacent view that consumers should have to accept mass produced gray boxes in the center of their living rooms, bedrooms and offices. We believe this landmark launch will change the TV market in the United States forever.”

  2. jtfields at 8:28pm 22nd August 2005 Has anyone actually seen these TV's anywhere? I can't even find them for sale on the internet. The company's website only seems to list a store in Taiwan and no option to buy online.

Well done. But, the big question:

will it take off and appeal to more than just those that buy it for the novelty?

We know the answer - not really and no.

Unless of course we all decide to furnish our houses with crazily fashioned appliances, which we won't. A good 98% of the population of this good eart wouldn't!

There, thats all I have to say...

    ...Thanks for listening!
