OpenTV today announced that it plans to introduce the OpenTV TVOS (Television Operating System) and PVROS (Personal Video Recorder Operating System) product lines at IBC.
These new product lines are intended for set-top box manufacturers that want to leverage more advanced software solutions for digital TV decoders and Personal Video Recorders in their retail markets.OpenTV indicated that the TVOS product line is now commercially available and that it expects the PVROS product line to be commercially available in early to mid-2005.
The launch of these two product lines is intended to help OpenTV’s customers leverage their investment in OpenTV for markets in which interactive applications are not currently available as well as markets that have adopted standards-based interactivity technologies, such as MHEG5, HTML, BML and MHP.
“These product lines will help ensure that OpenTV has solutions for set-top manufacturers across all of their markets, regardless of whether they’ve launched interactivity or not,” said OpenTV Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, James Chiddix. “OpenTV TVOS and PVROS represent some of the most advanced and flexible operating systems for digital set-top boxes.”
