Sony Intros ES-series AV Receivers

Sony has rolled out three new AV receivers in its "Elevated Standard" (ES) line, sporting 1080p video, Faroudja DCDi, and the latest audio processing.

Sony has announced three new AV receivers in its Elevated Standard (ES) line, aiming to please the home theater crowd with 1080p video support, the latest high-end audio codecs, and Faroudja DCDi Cinema technology for video upscaling. The new models also sport a PlayStation-inspired xross media bar onscreen interface to esy navigation and configuration. The ynits also sport Sony’s Digital Cinema Auto Calibration for setting up surround sound, and Bravia Sync for coordinating compatible Sony home theater components. The units also sport a Digital Media Port that adds connectivity options for Sony Walkmans, satellite radio, and devices like Apple’s iPod media players.

"The rapid evolution of audio and video has generated increased demand for connectivity and high-performance components," said Sony’s marketing direct for imaging and audio Tyler Ishida, in a statement. "This new line of ES receivers delivers the fidelity, build quality, and connectivity expected for an outstanding cinematic experience in the home."

The STR-DA2400ES offers 7.1 audio support with a 100-watt amplifier, four HDMI inputs, and a straightforward icon-based interface, while the STR-DA3400ES adds a 12-volt trigger, IR repeater, and high-def video distribution to a second zone via a composite connection. The STR-DA4400ES sports six HDMI inputs, audio distribution to three separate zones, and picture-in-picture monitoring of multi-zone output. The 2400ES should land in July for about $800; the 34000ES and 2400ES will hit retailers in August for suggested prices of $1,000 and $1,500, respectively.
