Taiwan’s LCD Makers Attack Samsung-Sony

Taiwanese liquid crystal display (LCD) makers are ramping up next generation production lines in an effort to stay ahead of the competition.

“CMO said Tuesday it would build a production line for “7.5 generation” models by 2007. Prior to CMO’s announcement, the world’s third largest LCD maker AUO said on April 26 it would set up a 7.5generation production line in the Taichung science complex by 2006.

The Taiwanese LCD makers apparently aim to corner the 40-inch television market, which is rapidly growing, and have adopted the LG-Philips standard to thwart the world’s leading TV makers Sony and Samsung.

AUO plans to operate the 7.5 generation plant from 2006 to supply 42 to 47-inch LCD TV panels to international TV makers, AUO executive Hui Hsiung said. “

  1. James at 2:10pm 4th May 2005 Samsung apparently is moving some of their production facilities to China anyways, so they very well could be neighbors.
