Underground park in New York might be a reality

The Delancey Underground project is a park idea that aims to convert an unused trolley terminal underneath Delancey Street in New York City into a subterranean public park, nicknamed the LowLine. It was inspired by a park in Manhattan called “High Line” park that was built on an unused elevated railway.

At the moment the designers, Daniel Barasch and James Ramsey, are attempting to build public and political support for the park idea. The above is video from their KickStarter campaign to fund a mini-park for demonstration to show residents, local businesses, and politicians how the park could potentially work. The project was completely funded, and actually reached it’s funding goal with a surplus of $50,000 from 3,300 people.
