Control access to your property while you’re away with Igloohome’s Smart Keybox

What if you could control access to your property from any location? There’s no longer a reason for you to be tied up just to give someone access to a vacation rental, Airbnb, or other property with Igloohome’s Smart Keybox.

You can grant property access to renters, guests, friends, service or delivery people, or even just use the Smart Keybox as a backup in case family members forget their own keys. All anyone needs to open the Keybox and retrieve a physical key for your property is a unique PIN code or Bluetooth key that you assign to them for a specified duration. You can also unlock the Keybox shackle with supplied physical keys. When you assign a PIN code or Bluetooth key you also set the starting day, time, and duration for which the code or key will work.

The 3.3-pound Smart Keybox is roughly pear-shaped and measures approximately 4.5 inches wide by 6.5-inches high by 1.5 inches thick. The top section is an unlockable open loop you can use to attach the device to a railing, door handle, or gate. You can also mount it on a wall with interior screws through the back. To secure your keys, the box is made of steel-reinforced zinc alloy and the removable top loop is steel with a silicon rubber casing.

There’s room inside the Keybox for up to six keys, seven key cards, or a combination of keys and cards. Wi-Fi and internet connectivity are not necessary for the Igloohome Smart Keybox. The device is linked to a smartphone app key after the user receives the Keybox. Four AAA batteries power the Keybox for up to 12 months. If the internal batteries fail, you can connect an external 9-volt battery to operate the box.

Igloohome has a special arrangement with Airbnb hosts. If hosts wish to integrate their Airbnb calendar with the box, PIN codes will be generated automatically for guests. That service is available for a monthly fee and is intended for host convenience; it’s not required for Airbnb hosts who prefer to greet guests personally. The Keybox also lets real estate agents give access to clients at scheduled times.

The Igloohome Smart Keybox give you the freedom to choose whether to be at your home or other property to greet renters and guests, or roam anywhere in the world while fully controlling property access.

When thinking about high-end home fitness, Peloton is likely a brand that comes to mind. It has unveiled its newest product: The Peloton Guide. Peloton Guide is the company's new way to help with strength training by analyzing your movement through the new accessory.

Peloton Guide resembles a standard webcam, but you place it in front of your TV. Its lens is used to watch over your movement to help make sure you work out correctly and maintain proper form. It's Peloton's first official strength training device, built with the same focus as the Peloton Bike and Treadmill. It features new programs such as Self Mode and Body Activity that help you analyze your training, as well as new strength-focused classes.

homeplenish-splindle toilet paper holder

Smart home appliances have a tendency to border on solutions-for-nonexistent-problems territory, and no place is that more apparent than the CES show floor. This year is no different. Case in point: A smart toilet paper holder from a company called Homeplenish that keeps a tab on your usage and then  automatically orders more from your Amazon account when you’re about to run out.

Homeplenish says its device will prevent people from hoarding rolls as its algorithm can automatically predict when you’ll need more and order it on your behalf beforehand, unlike some alternatives that tend to buy replacements on a set schedule. Since the smart holder integrates with Amazon’s “Smart Reorder” platform, it also takes into account delivery times and calculates the ideal reorder time frame to ensure “there is never too much or too little towel and tissue on hand.”

The Home Connectivity Alliance wants to bring you the smart home of your dreams
A 55-inch Samsung The Frame 4K TV hangs on a wall in a dining room.

The interconnected nature of smart home technology has long been the subject of discussion, especially with regard to the "walled gardens" that sprang up around different platforms. Many opinion pieces (our own included) said that the smart home would never be truly "smart" until interoperability became commonplace. Today, a number of different companies came together to announce the launch of the Home Connectivity Alliance, an organization devoted to creating interoperable appliances within the home. This announcement might pale in comparison to CES 2022 launches of a massive new TV or a nifty new robot vacuum, but it's just as important.

The HCA is made up of American Standard Heating and Air Condition, Arcelik, The Electrolux Group, Haier, GE Appliances, Samsung Electronics, and Trane Residential. The presence of some of these companies comes as a surprise given their relatively low profile in the smart home market, but Samsung's membership is no surprise at all. Samsung has long been a proponent of Matter, another platform pushing for interconnectivity between devices.
