WunderMap Displays Weather on Google Maps

Weather geeks who find themselves bouncing from site to site to check different forms of radar now have one more choice, over at Weather Underground. The site introduced its brand new WunderMap on Wednesday, a service it claims is the most user-friendly and interactive on the Web.

Unlike Weather.com which borrows map interface from Microsoft, and sites like AccuWeather that simply use animated map images, the WunderMap borrows its interface from the ever-popular Google Maps. Users can view NEXRAD radar, weather stations, satellite views, and even webcams by clicking on and off different layers of the map. Each layer also includes options for fine tuning – when viewing NEXRAD, for instance, users can choose how much opacity the layer should have, how many frames should be animated, and even the delay between frames.

“We have created the most comprehensive, user-friendly interactive weather map available,” said Alan Steremberg, president and co-founder of Weather Underground, in a statement. “No other online weather map offers such a range of options or layers that can be overlaid or taken away as directed by the user.”

Weather Underground’s WinderMap is available for free by checking the weather in your region and clicking on it, or visiting the WunderMap main page.
