Looking for the best unlimited cell phone plan? Here are our tips on how to choose the best unlimited cell phone plan to fit your needs.

In the mobile world, it’s all about communication, location and an unlimited nation. There are a lot of great unlimited cell phone plans out there, but just like choosing a handset, choosing a service plan should reflect your personal needs. The search for an unlimited cell phone plan is extremely important—you have to narrow down your choices, find what plan best suits your needs, and what plan you can afford. Consider your location, the amount you travel, how long your phone conversations are and who they are to. Think about when you use your minutes the most—weekends, week days, mostly Sundays—and, as all good searches should begin, start by making a list. Here are some steps, tips and suggestions for how to find the best unlimited cell phone plan for your needs.

Six Steps to Start Your Unlimited Cell Phone Plan Search

1. Determine which service providers are available in your area and make a list of the services you want and how much you can afford.

2. Check with your current wireless service provider—if you have one—and see what unlimited plans they provide and if one matches up to your needs. If not, then continue to search.

3. Compare special offers and plans of the key players of cellphone providers: Verizon Wireless, AT &T, US Cellular, T-Mobile, Sprint, Cricket, and etc.

4. If you’re prone to changing cell phone providers, choose a plan with least amount of commitment to avoid expensive cancellation fees.

5. Do you actually need true unlimited minutes? Or would you only need unlimited just on weekends or to your most frequently called and received numbers?

6. Determine which cell phone service company excels in the areas you need for the price you want, but also look at the provider’s connectivity and coverage ratings. We’ll give you a hint—Sprint may offer a great price and with great unlimited minutes, but Verizon is still takes the cake for coverage and call clarity.

Tips and Considerations…

  • Look into extras and optional features: Web access, GPS service, etc.
  • Check on how much the cancellation fee is
  • Always read the fine print on your service contract
  • Be honest and realistic about your cell phone usage
  • Think about your lifestyle and location—if you travel a lot within the US, you should probably look at nationwide unlimited plans
  • Expect to pay more for better quality service, more features, roaming and dependable connectivity—better plans will be more expensive and will be worth it

  2. Richelle at 1:40pm 23rd April 2010 I love this plan option. The one thing I do not like, nor do I understand, is why I can't use my current Verizon phone with this service. I don't like any of the phones offered. :(

  4. Canes at 1:43pm 31st January 2010 StraightTalk has the best prepaid plans out there, if not best cell phone plan period. I'm paying 1/3 of what I was with the iPhone and also a better network using Verizon. You're not gonna get better service with other prepaid phones...boost and the others are limited.
  5. Murry Katz at 11:21am 31st January 2010 Having been with AT&T, T-MOB, Veriz, Metro POS etc., I'm blown away by Straight Talk's unlimited paln for $45 too!

To have the advantages of Verizon's solid network without paying their high fees is great.

And since it's sold at Walmart, I can always buy more airtime easily.

    Very nice!
  6. Bdawg at 5:07am 27th January 2010 I would recommend Boost Mobile's cdma service. I'm using their blackberry unlimited plan, which is amazing. Just stay away from their iden line of phones, they are terrible..
  7. kgomez at 2:49pm 17th January 2010 I had been an AT&T customer for years, but moving out in the new year and Christmas bills made my last ATT bill nearly unpayable with all the charges and fees. My mom suggested I give Straight Talk a try and I was so surprised. I would have never thought Walmart would have such a great plan, but I can't lie except to say its just prefect.

I pay $45 a month for unlimited texting and calls, not to mention I can check my emails right from my Samsung screen like always. I pay per month so I don't have to worry about contracts anymore and I was able to keep my phone number as well.

Straight Talk operates on the Verizon network (the best coverage in country from my research) so I won't drop calls all the time like I did with AT&T. It was worth cancelling my other coverage just for the amount I know I will save with Straight Talk.

I can keep in touch and stay in touch with my family because Straight Talk is just that flexible. People shouldn't write Walmart off - they are hopefully starting the right trend in cell phone plans.
  8. infanta at 11:04am 13th January 2010 The cheapest cell phone on the market in the US so far for 2010 is the Tracfone.

Model Motorolla W 260 offers bundles of $9.00 at Walmart, Family Dollar including handset, carrying case and car charger. The Motorolla 410 includes the same value bundle for a slightly higher price....Some of these phones even include double minutes for the life of the phone!!!

There are no better deals. Hands down Tracfone. Pay $20 for 60 minutes. If you're a judicious cell user. You needn't pay more.
  9. Derek at 11:38am 31st December 2009 I have Sprint- I picked it up from an online Sprint retailer called Teltonic and they have a very affordable plan. I think that cell phone service falls under the guidelines of "you get what you pay for". If you're gonna pay 45$ a month, more than likely you'll get a 45$ cell phone. I know I'm paying a little more, but I'm also getting a lot more that comes with it too.
  10. alex000 at 12:53pm 28th December 2009 I have Straight Talk from Walmart and it is the best cell phone plan that I have ever used. Their unlimited plan is only $45 a month for unlimited texts, calls, and internet. It's also the best quality becuase it is carried on the Verizon network.
