Apple Finally Opens Australian iTunes Store

Nearly two and a half years after introducing the industry-changing iTunes Music Store, Apple finally lets Australian customers get their groove on.

Apple Computer today launched the Australian version of its iTunes Music Store, almost two and a half years after the company initially rolled out its market-leading digital music service. Apple says the Australian version of its store offers more than one million tracks from major distributors as well as independent labels, plus more than 1,000 music videos which can be played within the iTunes application or, of course, on a brand-new video-capable iPod.

“We’re thrilled to bring the revolutionary iTunes Music Store to Australia,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “iTunes features the largest catalog of local and international music in Australia with over one million songs, enabling music fans to purchase their favorites with one click and have them automatically sync to their iPod.” The Australian iTunes store features music from international performers, as well as Australian artists like Missy Higgins, Bernard Fanning, Paul Mac, Evermore, Gyroscope and The Dissociatives
