Britain’s Dumbest Criminal?

You have to be stupid to commit a crime, video it and put the result on YouTube. One man has done it more than 80 times, and is now appealing the sentence he's been given.

They say criminals are stupid, but few seem to be more so than 23-year-old Andrew Kellett of Leeds, England. He’s posted over 80 videos on YouTube of him and his friends committing a who range of offences.

A glance through his portfolio shows him driving at 140 mph, leaving a gas station without paying, taking illegal drugs and a whole host of other crimes. So it’s perhaps no surprise that his adventures came to the notice of authorities, which has led to him being given an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO), as well as YouTube closing his account.

Under the terms of the ASBO, Kellett can’t post video of any unlawful activity, nor can he drive, or encourage others to drive, in a dangerous manner. If he breaks those terms, he risks jail.

"Kellett must be in the running to be Leeds’ dumbest criminal. He has handed us the evidence against him on a plate," said Leeds City councillor Les Carter. "In the past three years, we have seen a 32% reduction in crime in Leeds. If more criminals were as obliging, the city would be even safer."

The ASBO is in effect until Kellett has a hearing next month. Meanwhile he’s appealing against it, claiming that it could breach his human rights by restricting his freedom of expression.
