Chinese Anti-Corruption Site Is Too Popular

A new site crashes on its first day under the number of hits.

You might not expect an anti-corruption site to crash under demand, but then you probably don’t live in China. The Beijing Youth News has reported that when the Chinese Bureau of National Corruption Prevention, which was only formed in September, opened its website on Tuesday, it proved to be so busy that it crashed in the afternoon.

The paper quoted an official as saying that the "number of visitors was too large," according to ZDNet.

The site was up again later in the day, boasting 12 pages of comments on its discussion boards, but went down again briefly on Wednesday.

China has encouraged whistleblowing against business and government corruption – but even they probably never expected this.
