Intel Cuts Processor Prices

Intel Cuts Processor Prices

In the wake of a big fall in sales, Intel has slashed the prices of its processor range, with some reduced by 50 per cent.

Last week Intel announced that its sales for the last quarter had slumped 23% to $8.2bn. It also said it expected sales of just $7bn billion in the first quarter of 2009.

To try and counter that it said yesterday that it was dropping the prices of its processor range. The Celeron 570 price will be cut by a whopping 48%, and quad-cores, including the Q9650 see a 40% reduction, the same as the Xeon processors.

It’s further evidence that Intel needs cash and will do everything necessary to get it. Part of its big loss last quarter came from a $1 billion writedown on its investment in Clearwire.
