Much of that type of robotics is still quite expensive, and not particularly adaptable. As we keep seeing new phones released every year, the cost of building new machines to build these devices become difficult to justify.

Even our consoles (Xbox, Playstation, and Wii) keep being changed making it difficult to automize the process. If you were to open up a launch Xbox and one from just a year later, the internals look totally different. Constant improvements of this type make humans mandatory for assembly.

It's not a better alternative in terms of giving people honest paying jobs. But don't we at this point in time have robot technology that can build these products in a similar amount of time, if not faster?

For a company as large as Foxconn, it's not a surprise to find occasional violations of human rights. To ensure we can continue to receive our high tech goods at low low prices, it's bound to happen. Everywhere we turn, these types of practices are bound to show up in a large enough operation. For every underaged worker found, expect 50 more who were never seen.

The worst part is that this isn't new news! Yet nearly every major tech company still works with Foxconn, (Acer, Amazon, Apple, Cisco, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, Nintendo, Nokia, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba,Vizio.) I would try to not buy from these companies, but then what could I buy?

If one were to stop using Foxconn, and brought those manufacturing jobs back to their home countries, their prices would balloon! It's too bad so many "American" companies can't even manufacture their products here in their home country. But what American worker would work for as long and for as little as these Foxconn employees do?
