Online Service Gives Airlines Problems

Even as airlines move toward more online services for passengers, they admit that it’s creating problems for them.

A new survey from aerospace IT company Sita has highlighted a dilemma for airlines. They want to embrace more online services for their passengers, but they’re also acutely aware of the problems those services create.   Of the 152 airlines surveyed, a little more than half currently offer online check-in, ZDNet reported, but that figure is expected to expand to around 90% over the next two years. Within that same period, 52% have plans to offer self-boarding services, while 76% will offer check-in from mobile phones.   But this expansion has created concern among the airlines regarding security, as has the move to IP-based networks. As the survey stated,   "Each of these services adds new layers to the physical and IT security equation, increases security risks and poses the challenge to deliver secure services in a fast and efficient manner."
