Skype Encryption Excellent

Skype’s encryption received a backhanded compliment from the German police.

The German security services might not be happy with Skype, but their dissatisfaction should give a measure of pleasure to users of the VoIP service.

Does that sound confusing? The problem that the German Federal Police Office have with Skype is the fact that its encryption is stopping the services from tracking criminals, according to Reuters.

"We cannot decipher it. That is why we are talking about source telecommunication surveillance, i.e. getting to the source before encryption or after it has been decrypted" JöergZiercke, head of the Office, told Reuters.   Since the Second World War Germany has had strong laws to protect personal information, and as a resultit’s unlikely that Skype will pass over encryption keys.
