OK, Cool down, the story is over. It was only a misunderstanding. Check Ken's latest blog entry, everything is under control. The poor girl is a school teacher, not a computer guru. Take a deep breath and be patient, a lot of people do not know about Linux. Such an over-reaction will do nothing to help either.
Peace
Ummm, *are* the discs his property? He's not allowed to withhold what's on them from anyone who asks for it, after all, so he's clearly not allowed to dispose of it as he sees fit, which is surely the simplest and most reasonable defition of property there can be.

As long as she gave him an equal number of blank discs, his property is not an issue.

Actually, I have a great deal of sympathy with the teacher, even though the facts of the case may be somewhat muddled on both sides, having submitted bug fixes to Open Source projects in good faith in the past, only to find those to whom I sent them charging their fee-paying customers *as if* the bug fix had been written by them as part of their support efforts. To the extent that this represented wilful withholding of part of the source, this was a clear breach of the GPL by those right at the heart of the Open Source community. Does one really want to raise a generation of employees in the belief that contracts may be broken with impunity whenever one sees fit?

Wow... Just wow. I'm not sure what to say to that, other than ignorance and misinformation can certainly lead to looking like a jackass.

And she was not happy by retaining the dude`s discs, but recommended the author of a linux distro to get an "older" version of Windows?!?!?! This so called teacher should review her diploma and attend to a real college.
