We’re currently seeking an experienced tech writer to pick up where our outstanding full-time editorial staff leaves off on Friday and charge into the weekend while they take a breather. That means little on-the-job training and no room for green writers; the ideal candidate already has experience writing online tech news and can dive right into writing publishable content for a major online news outlet with minimal hand holding.
The weekend freelance writer will be responsible for monitoring the tech space on Saturday and Sunday, and ensuring that any breaking news is covered quickly and appropriately on Digital Trends. News posts should be between 250 and 450 words, with a rough expectation of four to five per day, depending on the volume of weekend news. There are no set hours for this position, only the expectation that fresh stories will make it live on Digital Trends promptly during the days you’re on duty. That means writers may be located anywhere in the world, but will be responsible for remaining available and ready to write during daylight hours in the United States.
A lack of immediate, on-demand editorial supervision means that excellent editorial judgment and the ability to write airtight copy are essential for this position. Turning around copy quickly and reliably are also extremely important. Familiarity with WordPress is a major plus, though not required.
Compensation is negotiable and will be monthly, not per article.
To apply, send us a cover letter outlining your credentials, a resume, and three published clips.
