    When I first unboxed it, great stuff. And I mean seriously great stuff. It blows away graphically intensive games. It only took a few weeks for the problems to start though. Persistent hard crashes during game play were probably caused by the machines inability to deal with the excessive heat generated by so many high end components. Whether it was a design fault with my own machine or across the board I don’t know, but I do know that 30+ hours on the phone to tech support and sending it back to repair hasn’t helped in the slightest. Am currently in the process of obtaining a refund. I will be purchasing a desktop with the money as my confidence in gaming notebooks has diminished.

    The webcam driver also crashes live messenger if you try to access webcam setting from it and the 1.3 megapixel picture quality does not come through.

    That is my only complaint though, system restore works fine.

    Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company.

    I work for Dept. of Defense and Discovery channel so the box purchased due to the reviews I read on AW. I needed something dependable and high end for some large data processing. Original purchase was over $2800.

    I guess if the machine worked I would be ok but it didn’t. Plus the issues showed NO pre-shipping testing was done. I have been trying to get my computer fixed since July 14th. (today: sept. 10 2008).

    In today’s computer market, customer service is the deciding factor as there are many companies out there making the same thing for about the same price. AW customer service is terrible and once they have your money you are not much of a concern to them. I am now working w/ my Credit Card company to get a full return as AW will not. They state that I missed the 30 day return policy. Thank you Visa!!!

    One last note: if you do decide to go w/ AW make sure your Credit card company will back your full money return on situations like mine. Not all do and some requires a extra fee to support. Last note: also, after using parts from my old machine (Vid card) got machine running and fan cooling system is extremely loud.

    Stats: When I ordered my Alienware Area-51 M9750, I stocked it full of quite a bit of features, taking advantage of the performance Alienware offers.

    - Windows Vista Ultimate x64

    - Dual NVIDIA GeForce 8700GTs SLI enabled

    - 17″ 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview

    - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz

    - 4 Gigs of RAM

    - 1TB of internal storage

    - 2x Dual Layer Blu-ray Burner (BD-R, DVD±RW, CD-RW)

    Pros:

    Performance is incredible. I tear through every game from F.E.A.R. and Oblivion to Half-Life 2 and Crysis with little to no obvious stress on the computer. It stays nice and cool and it just looks bad-ass. The sound is loud and crisp as well as the display is fanominal. The “touchscreen” buttons for media control are easy and don’t get in the way, and work beautifully when listening to music AND playing full screen games.

    Cons:

    - Optical Drive. Because it’s on the front of the chassi, it’s increddibly easy to bump the little open button and causes multiple problems. Drive opening in the middle of a movie, game, or music if you do CDs. Not to mention how cheaply built the drive is. The aluminum ,is not far from that of a tin can and comes out of the box flimsy and cheap.

    - Chassi. The “non scratch surface” is met to an end around the edges of the computer. Because of the reletively sharp cut edges around the outside of the chassi, they are soon scrapped off with even the most minor of movement.

    - Screen Hinge. Within 10 months of owning my m9750 the hunges that support the screen are begning to give out. There is a small section of the hunges range that is loose. It has no catch for the screen and you have to play with it to get the right angle.

    - USB. there are only 4 USB ports on the entire system. With a gaming PC like this one, youd think they would consider the life of gamers and consider the amount of USB ports gaers usually use. Mouse, keyboard, webcam, external hard drive, joystick, gaming controller. With the limit of 4 ports. True gaming is impossable.
