Great Design for Pavilion Series, but bad hardware specification choice for a tablet pc class which come from the battery , graphic card series, and the touchscreen panel.
It’s graphics card is a bad choice for this TX if you are a hardcore gamers.
The TouchScreen method on HP COMPAQ tablet is way easier than this HP PAV TX but thanks to vista home premium which give a nice standard for pc tablet input.
I won’t recommend you to choose the 4 cell battery if you’re always off the AC outlet.
Good Choice for those who want to experience WinVista for the first time.
But its still well worth to buy as long as you choose all the maximum spec from HP.

Having just bought the new HP pavilion tx1138 laptop I am impressed; it is a smooth lovely piece of hardware. When reading the reviews it was often said that the tablet capabilities were not up to scratch however I find myself ignoring the keyboard and using it in tablet mode for all tasks other than document typing.
Problems are the black lid which gets fingerprinted easily, though the laptop contains a cleaning cloth, also pressure is needed, though not an abnormal amount, to gain a fluid line when drawing with the stylus.
I am satisfied and believe it is a great purchase for anyone.

I just got my tablet on 6/15/2007 from HP.
So far I love this computer
When I Ordered my Tablet, I chose the
-AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile 2.2 Ghz
-2 Gigabyte of memory
-Windows Vista Ultimate
-Tablet Version
-802.11a/b/g Wireless
-80 gig HD.
-Fingerprint reader, Webcam, Mic.
Yeah this computer is awesome until you come to use the tablet for extensive day to day writing. (I have a good hand writing on paper, but slppy when I use the Tablet)
No matter how many times I calibrate the tablet, it is always still off by about 1 to 2 centimeters when you use the stylis.
When you try to write on the tablet, the pen and ink never operate smoothly because it is always off callibration.
Wireless feature is asome! this is my first time using wifi, and I am happy I don’t have to pay for internet. Which is quite fast.
The speaker from Altec Lansing is amazing compared to other computers. I have tried out.
As for Vista, it is very different from XP, in which it is harder for me to configure the OS. remember the Mac Vs PC on Security? well it is true because everysingle webpage I enter, I am asked to allow or not allow a program to open.
Oh I also end up with plenty of errors lately using Vista.

Ok. I just posted a review for this laptop computer. But I had to resend it because they were offering a better deal on my computer in July.
So this is my second response to this item.
This one time around is a bit better. For once the touch screen actually works by touch unlike the one I had previouly.
when I bought this computer around, It finally had the
>802.11 a/b/g/n with blutooth
>120 Giga Bytes Hard Drive
>Fingerprint Reader.
>Extra battery.
>Light Scribe
>And everything else that I had on my previous order.
Though when I received it on 7/26/2007, I was dissappointed to find out that the Disk drive was not installed properly, nor did the Microphone worked properly. I tried returning it but it was just too much of a hassle.
I test drive this security feature, and Windows Vista is very secured.
Everytime I open a website, there is always a security clearance that requires my approval. Half.com’s web site is not secured enough under Vista’s security standards, so it did not allow me to make a purchase on their site. I disabled the security feature on my computer, and installed “CallingID” which is a great tool that shows a websites ownership, and how secured it is.
Overall, TX 1000 is a good computer. Now that is after HP made some upgrades.

Love the computer for travel but the low range videocard is a bummer. I have Purchased a couple of games for this unit and they will not play due to the weak capabilities.

I decked out my laptop before going to college. My classmates are very impressed with the thing and I keep finding ways to personalize it, like I recently got it trained to dictate my notes and listen to my voice commands which is awesome when you doing a meeting. I know the graphic card isn’t up to par… But I guess I don’t mind it. I might just end up buying a better graphic card instead.

I really like this computer. What I don’t like is the operating system, Vista is a pain. However I can’t remove it either as drivers not available for the touch screen.

One of the coolest looking notebooks on the market today but as far as tablet PCs go, it’s too thick and heavy for prolonged use. The touch screen is slow, I mean really slow. Vista too sucks the life out of the Turion and slows some tasks down to a crawl. The 12.1″ LCD is not bad, but suffers from glare and a resolution (1280×800) that’s too high for the small screen, making webpage-viewing on extended periods a pain.

The tx1000 series does not get along with linux very well. If you plan installing linux on it don’t buy this laptop. You will have problems with CPU scaling, you won’t find drivers for the built in Broadcom wireless lan (you have to use Windows XP drivers through ndiswan). Also you will have to recompile ALSA to get headphone jack auto sensing to work.
Specifically I have tried an HP tx1215nr.
You can get most things to work but it takes lots of headaches.
If you buy this laptop I would highly recommend you keep vista or buy another laptop if you plan to use Ubuntu.
If you still want to try Ubuntu on it you have to disable some kernel parameters to get the live CD to boot. Search on forums and you will find help.

I bought HP Pavilion TX 1000 a couple of months back in Chicago. Just now bought Motoming A1200 cell phone with H500 Bluetooth. After installing the Bluetooth controlled PC software in the laptop and mobile client in Phone, when I tried “sync-up” it does not work, saying “No Bluetooth Computers Found”. Will appreciate if any one has any answer for the same.

I got this along with the Verizon V740 cellular broadband card, and I’m in love. I hate it as a tablet PC, but I hate tablet PC’s in general (if I wanted to write longhand, I wouldn’t be using a computer).
The convertibility is nice when I’m in strict passive websurfing mode, I flip the screen around and just tap-tap-tap my way through pages. Verizon’s BroadbandAccess network is really nice when you’re in the service area, true broadband-level speed and responsiveness. I often use it with the screen reversed (but not snapped down into tablet mode), it makes a convenient way to balance the unit on one leg while steadying it with one hand and using the stylus with the other.
For 3D gaming it’s just not going to hack it, but I wouldn’t expect a 4.5-5 pound laptop to do so. I actually dialed down the CPU speed to keep the heat down and extend battery life, having a video card running a new game would generate so much heat it would be like having a stove in my lap.
The combination of an ultra-portable full-function laptop, a convertible screen, and cellular broadband makes this the ultimate internet appliance. I’ve dumped my Smart Phone in favor of this, there’s just very little I would want to do with those that I can’t do better with this.
If you judge it against a full-fledged PC or laptop for most functions, it seems only middling. But as a portable internet access device and work tool, it rocks. BTW, if you use IE’s Accessibility options to over-ride the font size on web pages, the super-small pixels of a small screen with high resolution stops being a problem.

The tablet pc lags too much not worth it screen resolution is bad, gets really hot and there is no way to see it outdoors due to massive glare! I got 4 gigs of memory and windows vista is just horrible even after uninstalling all that garbage HP and Microsoft pre installed on it the computer its ok for the price just don’t try to buy it with Windows Vista! Trust me it’s BAD.

I finally got off the phone after calling HP Tech Support. It only took 5 Hours for them to realize that the laptop needed to be serviced. My laptop is already giving out on me, and I just bought it in May 2007! The Tech support is really poor, they can barely speak english, the wifi really sucks, most if not all of the built in accessories are no longer working, the battery? Dont even bother, the tablet is almost completely incompatible with XP, Glossy screen? Takes in too much glare.Its preloaded with tons of crap software that I will never use.The fan can be quiet at times, other times it sounds like there is a leafblower compacted into this stupid laptop. Vista takes too much time to load and did I mention that the Tablet Screen is absolutely useless?
If you like HP-Crap loaded tablets that barely work, waiting on the phone line to be outsourced to India for 5 hours, Having the battery die every hour (when new), Having a hard time, and typing on a miniature keyboard while looking at a miniature screen and having a rediculous fat computer (tablets are usually as light as 2 lbs, this weighs 4.6), then I would reccomend that you buy this tablet. If you are looking for something powerful, sleek, useful, and not a piece of crap, then look somewhere else besides from HP

Forget all the gripers this is a great package. I bought it because I needed a small format notebook. The tablet function is a bonus. Mind you make sure you get the 2 gig memory version. Was initially resistant to vista but having delved into all the extras like inbuilt contacts, calendar etc and its light years abilities in terms of search compared to XP this is growing on me. The whole package is really well worth the money.

The good: – Quite small.
The bad: – Wireless does not work reliably.
The worse thing is that HP has a bios lock that prevents you from using 3rd party wifi cards.
Customer service is quite bad and they ping pong you left and right.

I bought the TX1000 9 months ago and it’s not working anymore. The mainboard just got damaged.
The worst…..It’s the 3rd tx1000 laptop that I hear got damaged for the same problem.
Nevertheless, the machine performance is very good.

Well this is the first laptop I’ve bought and I gotta say I got it for a really good deal but it just freezes too much! It’s a nice compact comp and looks hella nice. Use it for school every day but I just hate how if I have a few word documents going at one time… it freezes and the touch screen is useless to me. Well I’ve tried using it but I’d rather write my notes freehand, but then again some people are faster on it. It is very laggy for games… so unless you upgrade…games are a no-no. (Tried BF3, Rainbow 6-Vegas, COD4…etc) no good. Ummm other than that I guess it’s not the worse but definitely not the best.

I use this for my engineering courses and was quite impressed by it…for a while.
Pros
1. Cheapest tablet on the market.
Cons
1. This thing runs HOT!
2. Design flaws. Using it as a tablet (flipping back and forth between open and closed), the screen cracked through normal turning. Worse, HP refused to fix it, even with the extended extra warranty.

I wouldn’t buy anything HP. My presario notebook only 20 months old and rarely used needs a new motherboard. HP is junk.

Our company owner had one for just over a year (barely out of warranty of course) and the motherboard went out. In doing research, many people believe this is related to how hot the machine runs (a cooling design flaw). Couple that with a $400 MINIMUM price tag for the repair (in looking on ebay there were several other units for sale that had blown motherboards) and we’ve opted to just spend the next $1200 on a Dell that at least comes with a better warranty. There were non-stop touchscreen and FPS issues throughout the first year that meant that 25% of the owned time was spent in repair.
Unless you plan on using it for VERY short periods of time, keeping it 100% blown clean and only in chilly offices…we wouldn’t recommend. Or if you only desire to have it for a year…that seems to be the life cycle of the motherboard.

I must say that initially I was very excited getting this computer. After a month of owning it there were already problems with Vista and from there on it only got worse. I have had it for only 13 months and the computer is complete, non-working, non-usable piece of scrap. I am thoroughly disappointed with HP and its performance. I will not buy anything HP again! Too bad they don’t care…

I have had this for 13 months and when I got it, it was great. I was so excited since my IBM Thinkpad died. By the way, that was the best laptop I have ever had. Anyways, I just ran out of warranty and when I called, hp tried to charge me $49.99 just to talk me through a few steps, I did not pay and threw a fit, but they told me that the motherboard was fried. Well, now what do I do. I figured it was because how hot it got that its fried it. Well then I looked at my power cord b/c it wouldn’t charge and it has a burn through it. So not only is my motherboard shot, so is my power cord.. It’s a piece of S****….I know its cheaper then others, but please people get a Dell or an IBM…They are great companies and they WILL help you…

I bought this from HP a year ago and the day i purchased it, it was slow like a hell…..No after sales service in the real sense as every one will ask for a different no. and noone will really help…..This is the worst PC i have ever seen in my life

Nothing but trouble since day one. Now it’s dead for good. Only 17 months and it’s a goner, went to sleep and never woke up.
Not only am I out the $1,200 purchase price, but also many hours of lost time and productivity, and now all the information that was on it. HP has cost me thousands. Shame on you HP. SHAME ON YOU!!!

If you want to spend 1300 for a laptop that only works for 13 months or so, than THIS is the laptop for you. It ran extremely hot, around 200 degrees, it ran hot even when IDLE. First the internet card dies, and then the rest of the laptop dies…the motherboard fried. HP refuses to acknowledge the problem because it is off warranty – but who expects their laptop to completely die after only ONE YEAR??? Instead they blame US for not buying the warranty??? You mean they want us to waste another 300 so that they can fix a problem THEY created??? PLUS, I had the screen fixed UNDER warranty and when I got it back, the built in webcam completely died. By the time I realized it, I was off warranty. Thanks HP, you cheats!

I would like to know exactly how many of these are still running after 1 year of use. I have read hundreds of reviews, and there seems to be a common problems amongst all of them, namely-
1.Runs too hot. 2. Mainboard fries after a short while because of #1. 3. HP is sweeping it under the carpet. The repair is $300 – 400, you will not get the same quote twice from HP. You cannot buy ANY mainboards, they won’t sell them for the D.I.Y.’rs. Will they eventually aknowledge the problem and offer to fix it like they did with the dv series?
I highly doubt it, especially with the poor economy right now. That would cost them millions. So, the best solution is to NOT BUY ONE, and if you’re one of the unlucky buggers who bought one (like me), Sell the broken hulk on ebay. You can still maybe get a couple hundred to put toward a Dell, Toshiba, Acer, etc… NOT HP or COMPAQ!

I guess I am the luckiest one here, mine worked for almost 2 years. A lot of problems happened to this laptop. First, the speaker is making noise, the touch screen sucks (I guess this is normal), the turning support broke, and I have to fix it myself because only to check it they would want to charge me a hundred. The wireless card stopped working. The power adapter broke, I had to change 3 of them and now the battery cannot charge because the motherboard is fried. Never go into HP ever again.

Oh, and notice how all the reviews with good ratings are the old ones, I wonder how many of them now that they have had the computer for a year would feel the same? Ummm, I got a hunch that that they don’t care about the great features anymore now that HP’s defective component usage has left nothing more than an expensive fried motherboard. I would have rather spent $1,400 dollars to send 100 eeepc’s to underprivledged children!

It grabs your attention when you first see the HPtx1000, if your like me you decide to save up for a while because you want to get something with seemingly great specs and that will last the length of time that a computer in its class is expected to last. Twelve months and two weeks later it’s dead. I babied the darn thing, I even have an eeepc for when I travel to be sure that my HP stays home and safe. Hp new Nvidia chip was defective, look it up you’ll see. And that defective part mixed with the extreme heat of the AMD destines this computer for failure and hp has no problem selling it to you. Sure you’ll love it for a few months but “IT WILL DIE” hp gets away with it because it takes just over a year of normal use for the defective chip to finally bump and fry the mother board, lucky for hp the warranty just expired minutes prior and now if your like me you are left with the financial baggage while heading to class computerless. Look at all the new laptops they sell, notice they do not contain AMD processor mixed with that Nvidia chip. Humm, could it be because they just scammed 1000′s of us and know that it was a defective mix. Stay away from hp unless you have 1400 dollars to waist on a couple months of having a “high class” pc.

I am truly disappointed in HP as I was one of those extremely satisfied customers upon my purchase of the TX1000…it operated brilliantly for just under 2 years. I recently started having problems with random error messages and “black” screens at start-up. It’s ALWAYS been too hot to place in my lap. About 2 weeks ago, I attempted to turn on my computer without success – the motherboard was fried. I made numerous attempts to contact HP and get this issue resolved as I feel like most of you seem to feel – I paid way too much for the computer for it to quit on me so quickly. Needless to say, I am exhausted by my efforts thus far to get HP to exchange/repair my computer without charging me $400. I will buy a whole new computer first – despite the extra cost. I am done with HP and as the saying goes (I’ll try not to botch it up like our ex-president once did) – “fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice, shame on me!” I’ve learned an expensive lesson.

I bought an HP tx1000 13 months ago and 2 days ago when my one year guaranty was over, the motherboard fried!!! I have to pay $500 for the board at HP here in Kuwait! It’s an internal error right? They should fix it by themselves, but the Indian guy (as usual) kept saying “Sir it cost 110KD ($500).” What should I do, any suggestions? I’m so upset and I think I got ripped off. I won’t fix it for this amount.. shame on HP.. I used to love their gadgets but now I hate them.. is it fair?!

Fairly cruddy when i got it from HP so full of shareware that it runs slowly only recognised 120gb of the 150gb hard drive installed…?
ran incredibly hot too hot to touch.
HOWEVER i have completely wiped the hard drive and installed vista business. dismantled the entire thing to modify the cooling system (look on notebookreview.com mod is not too bad but you must take care with static i did it with no pc building experience!)
Now it works brilliantly, never too hot very rare software issues and all the functionality it came with. i now use it as a portable recording studio with fairly impressive results. HP made it, your average 19 year old can make it much much better with a little patience.

Like all of this, I purchased a very expensive laptop thinking I would get what I paid for. Fourteen months later…the motherboard is dead. I don’t even think it is worth fixing. The thing gets so hot I can’t even put it on my skin after a short while, and it will probably just fry the next motherboard I put into it. HP you blew it, recall these damn things, and stop the BS. I will never buy another product from them again. Go Apple.

I was bought my HP TX 1000 for christmas 07 after my Boyfriend purchasing one and loving it. After just under a year of owning it my motherboard died but luckly it happened within 5 days of the warrenty running out. HP fixed it but after only having it back for 4 months, the wireless connextivity of the laptop stopped working. I took it privatly and got it fixed, the day after recieving the laptop back the wireless went again, now under 8 months of having a new motherboard the TX 1000 resufuses to turn on or power up competely. Will never be buying another HP and will be moving my business to Apple.

HP needs to recall this piece of crap. The HP Pavillion tx1000 DOES NOT WORK and they need to acknowledge it (whether they like it or not)!
It’s not us costumers’ fault for mistakenly buying a product from you untalented, stupid HP technicians.
You, HP, should have been more responsible for your models. You should create a lasting model. Not some piece of junk to cheat money from your customers.
Telling us to pay for your mistake is very low. You guys suck!

I send my tx1000z to the HP total care for the motherboard changed last year (5 days passed the one year guaranty). And the motherboard DEAD AGAIN last Friday.

Worst computer ever! I have had to send mine back 4 times. (Luckily, I bought the 2 year extended care plan otherwise I’d be Screwed!)The motherboard died twice within 2 years. And the internet card has died twice. I have one month left on my warranty and have to send it back for the 2nd internet card failure. I hope that they will give me a replacement computer that is NOT a TX1000. I have not had terrible customer service but sending it back is a real inconvience as I don’t have a computer that works for 2+ weeks and I have to back everything up. Plus one of the times that I sent it to them, they sent it back without repairing it and said nothing was wrong. So I had to go through all the hassel again. And it’s never a short phone call- it’s always 1.5 hours+. They should recall this POS and refund or give new computer to everyone that purchased one.
