I’ve owned all three members of the SOny U series (the U1, the U3, and the U101), and I like the JVC infinitely more.
The unit is nearly as small, but much more powerful, plus it has other bonuses. The keyboard is wider for one, making the thing a helluva lot more practical.
If you travel quite a bit, as I do, then this is the #1 laptop option available for you.
I bought mine from Kemplar.com last month for $2080. Very fast, very friendly. (I bought my U101 from them too.) I’ve never dealt with iCube.

I had some problems with the wireless drivers that I downloaded for the system but that was actually my own fault. As for the system, I got a great deal at Dynamism and would whole-heartedly recommend them to anyone. The system I got had a few dead pixels and I immediately called Dynamism and they shipped me an exchange unit–no questions asked. Other than that, I’ll say the system is very light and capable. Go for it, you won’t regrat it.

In such a stunningly compact design, JVC have pack more fuctions than most people would need.
E.g. external display from JVC can boost a 1920, x 1080 resolution easily. Ctrl-Alt-arrow keys will change the window desktop display to portrail.
Data Link n port replicator interface your JVC with all peripherals and your desktop seamlessly.
Only drawback – the 2 USB hub are too close together.

Haven’t heard of JVC in the notebook market? Down let down by its name. It is a award winning machine in Japan – a leading market where manufacturer compete not by boosting specs but to design to push the imit. In this case…performance to weight ratio!!!

First launch in 02, with PIII 800, its already better than most of the competitor in its class with crouser processor. Finally, the 3rd generation comes with centrino! Don’t wait, I’m not…

If you are looking for a sub-notebook that has 90% of the power as its bigger siblings, but do not need the everyday use of an optical drive, heavy weight, etc. than this mini-laptop is for you. The only thing missing on this is the optical drive, but how many of you like me use it evertime you go out on a trip, which is what I mainly use this laptop for. If you are like me, 99% of the time I do not use the optical drive, what I have done is, I bought a cheap USB CDRW/DVD drive and I copy DVD movies to my hard drive using the program DVDSHRINK before going on a trip, I can copy a whole movie usually in about 20-25 minutes. This not only saves battery life because using the internal hard drive instead of a optical drive such as a DVD will save battery life big time !!! Most of you that have optical drives, burn a DVD to your hard drive and you can probably watch 2-3 movies before your battery dies, where as watching the DVD using the DVD drive you will probably only be able to watch 1 movie. I really wish that thislaptop had a touchpad which I perfer, but the pointing stick, I can live with and get used to, but I have also added a small optical mouse to use. For people that travel, once you go to “Small and light” laptops you will not want to go back to the big heavy laptops anymore for travel. I highly suggest this laptop to anyone that wants to use it for traveling.
