Are You a Cheapskate Gift Giver?

As the final days of the holiday shopping season wind down, a new survey from BizRate Research and Shopzilla reveals some interesting gift giving trends.

Are you a cheapskate gift giver? Do you recycle gifts? If so, you are definitely not alone, according to a recent BizRate Research survey conducted of online shoppers for comparison shopping search site Shopzilla.

The survey results reveal that 78% of online shoppers said they’d received a recycled gift, with 63% saying a begrudging thank you as a way of being polite. The notion of giving re-gifts, as wellas items purchased at bargain stores, follows along several different possibilities. 62% of those surveyed said they’d rather re-gift then throw something out, while 34% were trying to stick to atight budget.   And, of course, there are those who are truly cheap. An estimated 3% said they give recycled or bargain gifts because “they do not like to waste money on items for other people”As for the future, said Shopzilla, “cheapskate gift giving”, like an addiction, can become habit forming. 34% of respondents admitted to doing so twice, another 20% re-gifting three times, and 14%admitting to recycling gifts on more than five occasions.
