Asus Claims Thinnest 22-inch LCD Monitor

With trim proportions and an LED-lit, leather-wrapped body, the LS221H has been positioned as a luxury desktop display.

Latching on to the trend toward thinner and thinner everything, Asus announced a new desktop LCD display on Thursday that it claims is the thinnest 22-inch widescreen monitor produced. Besides its slim dimensions, the display also touts unusual materials, including glass and leather.

Although Asus’ press release pegs the monitor at 248 millimeters thick, or 9.76 inches, we’re guessing that a missing period would make 24.8 millimeters more likely, or 0.98 inches. Unlike traditional LCD monitors, the front of the display is actually covered in a sheet of ultra-hard anti-reflective glass, which meets the piano-black chassis at hard, diamond-cut corners. The leather comes in on the lower half of the bezel, which Asus said provides a luxurious feel, added to by ambient lights built into the base.

Besides its dolled-up exterior, the LS221H also sports some pretty impressive performance specs. Asus claims the display delivers 4,000:1 contrast ratios and 2 millisecond response times, along with a more average 300 nits of brightness and 16.7 million colors. Five preset video modes, three skin tone presets, and five color temperature settings also allow users to customize the image to their liking.

No pricing details or shipping dates for the LS221H have yet been announced.
