GM already manufactured all-alectric vehicle two decades ago. EV1. It ran smoothly, quietly and even faster than opponents. It´s a shame that car manufacturers (GM, Ford, Toyota…) didn´t continue their work back then. They had all the technology but they just continued to make gasoline motor powered cars. Now they are in trouble because they didn´t change the course towards zero emission earlier. Shame on them. And thaks for the smog.

The Volt fits the conditions of today. Is there a plug in station in Newell Iowa? no! but the car can operate there. Will the car change in years ahead? sure it will as it is built for todays conditions. I can't wait to own one.

Not that it really matters but there are some circumstances where the gasoline engine does drive the wheels. They did it that way because it is the best way to do it if you are carrying around a gasoline engine.

I would like to see a cheaper version without the engine & gas tank, it would be lighter and could get a little more range also that way..

Wow! Thanks for posting the awesome pictures. It is nice to be able to hear about new cars from a different point of view than commercials. The interior of this car looks amazing.

Yes it has a gas engine to recharge the battery but unlike the Prius, only the electric motor drives the wheels. It's not perfect but it's a start.

It has a gas cap, a gas tank and a gasoline engine. It is not "all-electric".

It is a plug-in hybrid.

Has there been any discussion yet on maintenance costs of electric cars? It comes with a reasonable price tag, which is great, but what happens when something goes wrong or it's not charging like normal? Are these costs going to be higher?
