EU Channel Surprising YouTube Hit

Launched last Friday, the European Union channel on YouTube has proved to be a big hit – thanks to a 44-second sex film.

No one would have imagined that the European Union (EU) would prove to be hit when it opened its own channel on YouTube. Butit’s getting 20,000 hits a day – thanks to a little piece of art called Film Lovers Will Love This! which has sparked somecontroversy within Europe.   The clip, which is intended to celebrate European cinema, shows both men and women having sex together in a number of different ways, and ends after 44 seconds withthe words, “Let’s come together.” The segments all come from European films.   There have been a number of complaints from Poland about a scene between two men, but theEuropean Commission (EC) refuses to say there’s anything controversial about the piece.   The video is one of four made to advertise Europeancinema, and all are available on the EU channel. They have also been available on the EC site since February, and also on YouTube. But it’s only since the opening of the EU Channel, EUTube, that the sex film has garnered massive attention.   “It is very important for the Commission to use all the means at its disposalwhen it comes to communicating with European citizens,” said European Commission Vice-President Margot Wallstrom.
