Firefox Flicks Coming to TV
Fans of Mozilla's Firefox Web browser are underwriting 30-second television spots to be shown on prime-time television in major markets.
About a year ago, fans of the Firefox Web browser banded together to form Firefox Flicks, with the idea to create 30-second video advertisements promoting the Firefox Web browser as a safe, secure, and easy-to-use alternative to…well, everything else. Fans of the browser had already taken out ads in major print publications, and they figured the time was ripe to move to the next medium: television.
Enthusiasts created literally hundreds of possible videos, which were viewed and rated by the Firefox Flicks user community. And now, fans have underwritten four videos which, with the help of SpotRunner, will be shown on cable channels in the San Francisco and Boston areas of the end-of-year holiday season. Spots will appear on ESPN, Comedy Central, TNT, USA, The History Channel, and MTV. The San Francisco and Boston markets were chosen for their tech-savvy audiences. The idea is to promote Firefox to Internet users who might not realize that they have a choice of Web browsers, or that their choice can have a significant impact on the way they use the Internet.
