Google Sued Over Child Porn
A New York politician has filed suit against Google, claiming the company profits by accepting advertising from sites containing child pornography.
The Associated Press is reporting that New York politician Jeffrey Toback has filed a lawsuit against Google, alleging the Internet giant is profiting by accepting paid advertisements from Web sites which contain child pornography.
Toback is a member of the Nassau County Legislature, but said that intervening with Google is beyond the power of his office, and so went to the courts. The lawsuit, filed in the New York State Supreme Court in Mineola, calls Google the “largest and most efficient facilitator and distributor of child pornography in the world,” but does not name other high-profile search engines like Yahoo or MSN, which also have paid advertising programs.
For its part, Google denied the allegations, saying the company works hard to block access to child pornography and removes it from their services as soon as it’s discovered. The company also has a “SafeSearch” feature which helps filter out adult content, and works closely with law enforcement to combat child pornography and other forms of illegal content.
